This has been revised by the Department for Childrens Schools and Families (DCSF), the Healthy Schools Team at the Department of Health and the School Food Trust (SFT).
All children in Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2 receive a free piece of fruit daily. Note: after a holiday, it does take a day or so for delivery of fresh fruit, but on these occasions you can still send in fruit from home if you wish.

Kents Hill is committed to the Healthy Schools programme - please click on the link below for current information.

We are currently awaiting a decision about our Healthy Schools status, having completed the necessary audit. We aim to create a healthy working environment and promote children’s health and well being through things such as healthy eating and physical activity.

All children are encouraged to protect themselves from the sun, and are encouraged to apply sun cream/wear a sun hat when appropriate.

We hope parents sending packed lunches encourage healthy eating for their children and the school meals served meet the Food Standards. Please click on the Healthy Lunch Box button to view tips.

As part of our Healthy Eating we do not allow children to distribute sweets to others for birthdays or celebrations.

At lunchtimes we run an Active Playgrounds scheme where children are encouraged to be as active as possible.

A guide for parents.

Governors met in 2008 to discuss the findings of our recent OFSTED inspection and have considered new ways we can improve our attendance figures to at least bring them in line with national averages.

In September 2008 we issued new guidance to parents who are considering taking their children out of school for holidays in term time. There is no entitlement to holiday in term time although up to five days in an academic year may be classed as authorised absence. If holidays are taken that are unauthorised these are referred to the Education Welfare Officer who can impose fixed penalty fines.

In the future, factors such as timing of the absence (holidays taken at the beginning of term are particularly disruptive to children’s education) and previous attendance record will be considered before authorising absence for holiday. Please click on the link below to obtain a holiday request form - this should be completed and passed to the School Office.

We currently use Cygnet, who provide hot meals on a daily basis. The current cost is £2.05 per day which includes a dessert.

During this half term, to celebrate the World Cup, Cygnet are running a 'Feast of Football'initiative.

If your child is off school and you need a copy of a letter, please ask at the office.

As an environmentally friendly school we encourage recycling wherever possible. Parents can bring in their old mobile phone(s) and we will recycle them, at the same time raising funds for school. If you have any old inkjet cartridges, please bring them into the school office and we will send them off to be recycled - we receive 10 Tesco Computers for Schools vouchers for each branded cartridge we send for recycling. We are always grateful for any second hand uniform donations, which is then sorted and sold to raise funds for the school. Please also donate any empty cereal boxes, egg cartons etc. for the children to use for junk modelling in school. Used stamps are also collected and recycled for charity. We have also recently trialled a Jewellery Recycling scheme, where the Ethical Recycling Organisation valued and sold unwanted or damaged gold, silver or costume jewellery and watches. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this - we raised £225 for the school which is FANTASTIC! (We intend to make another collection in Spring Term 2010 so please keep hold of any old unwanted/broken jewellery or watches ready for next year).

With the support of NatWest’s Sue Foster and Mrs Anderson, we have now set up our own School Bank to help the children understand more about banking and the basics of managing money. Supported by ongoing guidance from NatWest, the School Bank is run by pupils from Kents Hill and Walton High. All pupils have the opportunity to open an account and pay in money at the school bank which is open each Wednesday from 8:45-9am. Children also receive regular account statements which the NatWest staff will go through with them, to help them to understand the process of running a bank account and watching their savings grow.

The Council have a system for communicating school closures to parents. You can now also register to receive free text and email alerts if the school has to close - please click on the link on the left for full details.

We operate several school clubs which run after school. MK Dons run a Football club/Multi Skills club on a Tuesday (from 3:15-4:15pm). Our Gardening Club also runs on a Tuesday from 3-4pm for Year 1 and 2 children (please note Gardening Club does not operate between Christmas and half term due to the cold weather). French (which is from 3-4pm) operates on a Wednesday. Our Art Club (3-4pm) runs on either a Wednesday or Thursday and Spanish Club (which is from 3-3:45pm) operates on a Thursday.

We advise parents at the start of each half term when each block starts and the cost involved. For the clubs with limited space, Art, Bug and Gardening, if we receive more requests for places than are available, they will be allocated on a first come first served basis. In these cases you will receive confirmation if your child has been allocated a place. Children attending Football Club on a Tuesday are supervised between 3pm and 3:15pm when club starts.

We also operate a Bug Club in the summer term which runs on a Tuesday or a Thursday from 3-4pm at a cost of 50p per session. You will receive a separate letter home about this club, which is run by Miss Filby.

The School Prospectus 2009-2010

We expect all families to support our uniform policy. Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly marked with the child's name.

Children should wear shoes for school and not trainers. We prefer them to be black and should be practical and safe. We do not expect to see children wearing either sling backs or shoes with heels.

Indoor PE is with bare feet. Children will need plimsolls/trainers for outdoor PE and games. When the weather is cold, children should bring PE kit that is suitable for outdoors, such as a tracksuit.

We are always grateful to parents who collect and donate vouchers for various schemes, such as Tescos for Schools & Clubs, Sainsburys Active Kids, Books for Schools, Flora Cooking With Schools, Nestle Box Tops for Books, Persil Stars and Asda Go Green for Schools. All of these schemes provide much needed resources for our school, so please KEEP COLLECTING!
