Frequently Asked Questions

 Question

Answer

Why should I send my child to an infant school?

We focus on giving the youngest children the best possible start to their education, building social as well as academic skills. We hope the children leave us to go to their next school as confident individuals with a positive attitude to their learning.

How does the performance of Kents Hill School compare with (a) the local average and (b) the national average?

There are no league tables published for Key Stage 1. SATs results for the current year can be found in the School Prospectus.

What age would my child start and end with you?

Children can start at Kents Hill Nursery in the September following their 3rd birthday. They can apply to join Reception in the September following their 4th birthday and they leave in the July following their 7th birthday.

What is the 'feeder' process after Kents Hill School?

The majority of children transfer from Kents Hill School to Heronsgate School in Walnut Tree. The transfer process is planned so that during the summer term children are visited by their new teachers and also have an opportunity to visit Heronsgate for a morning session.

Do you have an open day or can we make appointments to visit the school ?

We hold an annual open day during the Autumn term (see school calender). If you would like to visit school you are welcome to telephone the school office to make an appointment.

On what basis do you allocate places?

See Admissions in:

How far in advance can I put down my child's name for a place?

You can register your child at any age. Admission information will be sent to you in the Autumn term a year before your child is due to start.

How do I register my child?

To register your child please contact the school office.

What is the curriculum for Reception?

In Reception children follow the Curriculum for the Foundation Stage. This is government guidance for children of this age. It consists of 6 areas of learning – Communication, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Understanding, Knowledge and Understanding, Creative Development, Physical Development and Personal and Social Development. Equal importance is given to each area within the curriculum.

How can I prepare my child for starting school?

During the summer term before your child starts, you will be invited to attend an interview with the Headteacher. We also hold a meeting for parents. At these meetings we will discuss preparations for your child's admission.

If your child joins our school at a later date they will receive a buddy booklet for them to complete and bring to school on their first day. This will give them information about the school and their teacher.  Children who join our school at the start of the academic year will be given an opportunity to meet their teacher on a changeover morning.

Do you have a before and after school club?

Yes we are lucky to have Kents Hill Care Club.  Each morning from 8am until 8.50am we run Early Birds and from 3:00pm-5:45pm there is Twilight Zone.

We also have a number of after school clubs which are run by external providers, such as Art/French/Spanish/Bug Club/Gardening, as well as a regular club run by MK Dons. Details of all clubs are sent each half term via book bags.

Do you have any school holiday clubs?

At present we do not run any school holiday clubs.
